Lang Will Attend Judicial Conference

INDIANAPOLIS - La Porte Superior Court 1 Judge Kathleen Lang is one of 29 judges selected to participate in the Judicial Conference of Indiana's Graduate Program for Judges.

The Graduate Program for Judges is a two-year program that requires judges to attend one week of intensive course work and complete written examinations during two consecutive summers. The courses provide in-depth study of intellectually challenging areas of the law, taught by distinguished law professors and judges.

Lang and her classmates in the Class of 2009 just completed their first year of the required course work.

"The Graduate School for Judges offered an opportunity to study the law in a way that most judges have not had a chance to do since law school," Lang said. "The week gave me the opportunity to get to know other judges from throughout Indiana. I am honored to have been selected as a participant and look forward to the second week of class next summer."

The objective of the Indiana Graduate Program for Judges is to provide a vehicle through which some of Indiana's best judges can become even better judges. The courses are of academic substance, intended to challenge the legal mind, and do not focus on judicial skills or other usual subjects offered by the Indiana Judicial Center.

Lang has served as a judge for the past six years, the first three years as magistrate in Circuit Court and the past three years as judge of Superior Court 1. Before that, she was a prosecutor in both La Porte County and in Chicago.

Formerly an adjunct professor at Valparaiso University School of Law, she has been on the faculty for the Indiana Judicial Center and recently taught a trial advocacy program at Winston and Strawn, an international law firm with more than 950 attorneys.
